WHAT'S THE STATE OF YOUR MINORITY UTILIZATION?
And where can you focus to improve?

VOLUME 3JUNE 2009

Most hospices typically face a challenge of underutilization from minority populations. A recent national study by Healthcare Market Resources reveals the relative penetration of hospice usage by state for African-Americans. How does your state rank?

These statistics represent the percentage of hospice discharges divided by the percentage of the African-American population for each state. Ideally, a fully penetrated segment would have a 100 percent ratio. But the lowest quartile states of our nation have an average penetration of only 17.8 percent.

One way that Transcend can help further analyze audience focus is through our geographic Opportunity Maps™. We’ve taken one of the states with the lowest African-American penetration – Minnesota – and created an Opportunity Map of the Minneapolis area.
